The Safest Neighborhoods in Chicago

Despite the negative media attention received, Chicago is actually much safer than most visitors (and some residents) might expect.

While there is no denying that certain neighborhoods in Chicago are undoubtedly unsafe if not downright dangerous (like those cited in the article on the Most Dangerous Chicago Neighborhoods, there are many community areas that are as safe in the middle of the night as they are at mid-day.

What is most interesting about this data visualization is that while many will think that only the north and north-west side neighborhoods of Chicago are the safest (and they do tend to be), there are several local communities including Mount Greenwood and Hegewisch which made the top ten. 

While unlikely that you’ll be in immediate danger in one of the neighborhoods listed below, keep in mind that danger does lurk around every corner so always remain vigilant and monitor for strange and irregular behavior.
